Vascular Lesions are any lesions that consist of blood vessels.
The most common is the cherry angioma. These are little tiny red bumps on the
skin. Another common vascular lesion is the spider angioma. It is a red vascular
papule with small radiating spokes that resemble a “spider”. They are located
commonly on the face. Laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the
oxyhemoglobin resulting in heating of the blood vessels. With the correct
wavelengths and fluence, the vascular lesion will be heated to above 70 oC. At
that temperature, blood vessels will break down and shrink which leads to a
reduction of the vascular lesion. |
